Field Trip
The post-meeting field trip to Jurassic Oxfordshire is a separate ticketed event. Places are limited to Association members and will be allocatedon a first-come, first-served basis at time of online registration.

The one-day post-meeting fieldtrip will visit key locations in the Jurassic fossil-bearing successions of Oxfordshire. The county has a long history of important palaeontological discoveries from the first dinosaur scientifically described to one of the largest dinosaur tracksites in the world. This trip will transect the Jurassic strata exposed in Oxfordshire to reveal both this deep history and the changing environments that the rocks and fossils describe.
The trip will depart from the Museum of Natural History, Parks Road, Oxford on the morning of 11th December, and return to Oxford no later than 6 pm. We will make stops at a Corallian reef in Rock Edge Nature Reserve, the famous mammal bed at Kirtlington quarry, visit Hook Norton Brewery to learn about the Banbury ironstone and the village of Stonesfield – home to the first scientifically named dinosaur, Megalosaurus. A detailed itinerary will follow for those registered.
Field trip registration fees will include coach transportation and a field guide. Participants will be able to purchase their own lunch from a local pub (venue TBC). The number of participants will be limited due to coach capacity. It will not be possible to run the trip if the minimum number of participants is not reached. Registration will be closed to new participants once the maximum is reached.
This trip will be largely on accessible pathways, but please do indicate access requirements at registration. Hard hats are not necessary, but we strongly recommend sturdy footwear and wet weather clothes.
