ECR Workshop: Learning from experience: publishing, grants and jobs

Convenors: Dr. Orla Bath Enright (Stuttgart), Dr. Nidia Alvarez (Manchester)
Date: Thursday 11th December 2025
Duration: 14:00–17:00 (and 18:00 to 20:30)
Sponsor: Cambridge University Press
Maximum capacity: 50 participants (limited to Association members that are doctoral students up to those that do not yet have permanent positions)

The Early-Career Researcher workshop and social will focus on the transitions from PhD student to postdoctoral researcher, and on to lecturer; with talks on publishing, applying for grants, and applying for permanent positions. There will also be a panel discussion with senior experts and opportunities for networking with peers during the workshop and social event. The evening social will be held at Guildhall Village, which is close to the university campus and suggested hotels. Due to the nature of the topics, we have taken the decision to limit attendance to Association members that are doctoral students up to those that do not yet have permanent positions.

Whilst attendance at the workshop and social event will be free, we encourage a donation of £10 at registration to help towards the costs of catering. Participants that provide a donation will be entered into a prize draw to win books that have been generously donated by Cambridge University Press.

Participants must register for the event when registering for the conference. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis at the time of online registration.

Prize draw books available:

  • Fastovsky and Weishampel: Dinosaurs: A Concise Natural History 4th edition – two copies
