Scelidosaurus harrisoni Owen, the type species of the genus, is reconsidered using all available material. Evidence is given that the lectotype chosen by Lydekker is unsuitable, as it is a megalosaur, not an ornithischian, and it is proposed to make an application to the International Nomenclature Commission to designate an alternative specimen.
